Rezoning request for 49 homes in Amelia Court House to go before Supervisors
One newsletter, one meeting summary!
This time around, a quick summary of what’s happening tonight at the Amelia County Board of Supervisors meeting. Amelia is the fourth-smallest locality population-wise according to data from the Weldon Cooper Center at the University of Virginia.
Demographers estimated 13,263 people in 2022, which is two below the U.S. 20 Census County. Only Lunenberg, Charlotte, and Cumberland counties have fewer people.
Tonight, Supervisors will take up a rezoning for about 18.9 acres of land near Amelia Court House. The applicant is seeking a density level of 2.6 units per acre. I’m very interested in how this one goes because conversations about where people are going to live in the future is very much the essence of the work at Town Crier Productions.
I can’t yet follow all of these discussions across the whole district, but I do this newsletter to begin to understand how all of the pieces fit together. Thanks for reading, and thanks to the people who have pledged paid support! Maybe I’ll try to figure that out because I love doing this.
Reading material this time includes stories from all localities because I didn’t get any relevant links to any stories about Amelia County.

After the call to order, the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, the consent agenda, and public comments, there will be several reports and presentations. It is important to point out that the individual items in the consent agenda are not listed by subject. This appears to include a lease with RiverStreet Networks.

There’s a public hearing on a rezoning request for Dutch Gap Gas & Grill that seeks 18.86 acres on Dunn Street to be designated Planned Community District rather than the current R-1. This would be for the construction of 49 single-family detached units. The Planning Commission voted 5-4 to recommend approval with conditions including a sidewalk connection to Five Forks Road. I would love to write about this one.
