Meetings today in Bedford County and Powhatan County: Drive-in site eyed for 47 townhomes
Another week of newsletters begins!
There’s been a lot of activity so far this week and last week I opted to take some time off from this experimental newsletter that seeks to bring people information about what’s happening at local government meetings in the Fifth District. I missed most of last week but please take a look at the “reading material” section to catch up with some of what’s happened.
Bedford Supervisors to consider 47-units at site of former drive-in
The seven-member Board of Supervisors in Bedford County will meet at 5 p.m. in the Ground Floor Training Room for a work session. (meeting portal)
The work session will cover the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Secondary Six-Year Plan. That is the mechanism for prioritizing paving of rural roads among other things.
Supervisors will also get a look at the new county website from Public Information Officer Shelley Basinger.
The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. There are six public hearings and public presentations.
May 21 through May 27 is Emergency Medical Services Week and Chief Janet Blankenship will be presented with a proclamation.
There will be a public hearing on a new fee schedule for building permits.
There will be a resolution to adopt the FY24 budget for both local and school government.
There is a special use permit for 47 townhouses on White House Road in Moneta on land zoned Agricultural Village. This is on the site of a former drive-in movie theater and diner and is designated for mixed-use
There will be consideration of a request to vacate a portion of Private Shores Drive near Smith Mountain Lake.
There will be consideration of a request to vacate a portion of Fisher Drive near Smith Mountain Lake.
Supervisors will also consider whether to replace the call bell system at the Bedford County Nursing Home which is owned and operated by the locality. This would be at a cost of $172,641.
They will also consider a resolution to revise and readopt their bylaws related to community member comment as well as the time of a meeting that board appointments are made.
The meeting will end in closed session with an annual performance review for County Administrator Robert Hiss and County Attorney Patrick J. Skelley III.
Powhatan Supervisors to consider rezoning for funeral home
The five-member Board of Supervisors on Powhatan County will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Building. (agenda packet)
There’s only one major item on the agenda and that’s a rezoning application for a funeral home and crematorium on Anderson Highway. If you want to catch up on what happened during the budget process, the minutes are expansive and tell a story.
