Meetings today in Amherst, Danville, Lynchburg and Pittsylvania
An overly abbreviated version of this experimental newsletter
One reason I have not turned on paid subscriptions is because I don’t quite know if I can always keep up with the pace of letting people know what’s happening at meetings in the Fifth District. There’s been a lot happening in my life this month, and it’s not March Madness at all.
To compromise with a need this week to free up more time, a very quick report. I’ll be back next week with more of this experimental newsletter.
The Lynchburg City Council will meet for a budget work session at 4 p.m. followed by a special meeting. This will be a briefing on rate increases for water, sewer, and stormwater services. Lynchburg is under a mandate to upgrade a combined system where stormwater and sewer use the same pipes. The work session will also consider a $124,214.45 cost increase for a project to stabilize the banks of Blackwater Creek. The increase is due to more rock than had been expected. In the special called meeting, they will vote to appropriate $6 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding to the Richland Hills Sewer Project. (meeting info page)
The Danville City Council will meet at 7 p.m. and will get an introduction to the Fiscal Year 2024 budget under “announcements.” There is no information in advance or on the budget website. There will also be a public hearing on the closure of unused gas easements on South Boston Road and Kentuck Road, and a public hearing on changes to the program for real estate deferrals and exemptions for elderly and disabled residents. There will also be a resolution issuing $6.5 million in bonds for electric and water infrastructure. (meeting info page)
The Amherst County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. On the agenda is a public hearing for a lease agreement with Susan Leonard to continue living in a home owned by the county, as well as an amendment to the county’s erosion and sediment control ordinance. There will also be a presentation on the school budget. Under new business there will be a discussion of land use permission and facility development for public safety purposes. The packet also has information about the upgrade of Amherst’s financial and tax software. (meeting info)
Pittsylvania County’s Board of Supervisors has a work session today and a regular meeting. Unfortunately, I have run out of time to tell you the details. But here is the meeting information.
