Interim Supervisor to be appointed in Hanover County
Plus: Hanover's Registrar will give an update on early voting
I have just one story from one locality today with Lunenburg County coming up in the next installment. If you can’t wait, here’s the packet for October 12 meeting. I have to get on to the next Charlottesville Community Engagement.
I also have to confess I missed Cumberland County this week and blame a misreading of the spreadsheet I use to keep track of what locality’s elected body meets when. Here is a link to the agenda if you want to take a look. The recording is not up yet.
In any case, thanks for reading and bearing with me as I continue to work out the rhythm.
Hanover County Supervisors to select replacement Supervisor for Chickahominy District
The six remaining members of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the Board Room in the Administration Building at 7516 County Complex Road in Hanover. Former Chickahominy District Supervisor Angela Kelly-Wiecek resigned effective October 6 to take a job in state government. (meeting overview)
Today’s meeting will begin with a call to order, an Invocation, a Pledge of Allegiance, consideration of amendments to the agenda and then a comment period for Board Members and comments from the county administrator.
Before the big decision over who should be the interim supervisor, members of the American Legion Post 90 in Beaverdam will help with the handing out of awards to the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and the Firefighter of the Year. (staff report)
Then the public gets to talk at Citizens’ Time.
Then there will be a closed session to replace Kelly-Wiecek until the end of the year. She did not seek a new term and the seat is being contested by Independent Hope Prince and Republican Danielle Floyd.
Following the closed session, the floor will open for nominations. After the appointment there will be a reassignment of committee positions that Kelly-Wiecek held.
Next up there will be a presentation on early voting in Hanover County so far from Teresa Smithson, General Registrar / Director of Elections. According to the Virginia Public Access Project, 3,773 ballots have been cast in Hanover so far through October 10.
In 2021, there were 22,161 early voting ballots cast in that locality.
Next up, the Community Development Department will present its annual report. That includes Building Inspections, General Services, Planning/Zoning, Public Utilities, and Public Works.
Then they will get a legislative update to continue a discussion from August 2 on the legislative agenda for 2023. At this time they’ll get an update from the Board’s Legislative Committee which meets earlier in the day.
