The third of three newsletters this week and sort of back to normal. I’ll be back to a sort-of-normal next week, though Monday is a state holiday with the observance of Juneteenth.

Goochland Supervisors meeting with PC to discuss Centerville Small Area Plan
The five-member Board of Supervisors in Goochland County will meet at 6 p.m. in Board Meeting Room 250 for a joint work session with the Planning Commission. (meeting info)
The Comprehensive Plan’s land use chapter designates four major villages which are defined as “more populated communities where residential, commercial, and other land uses are integrated.” The two currently in existence are Goochland Courthouse and Centerville. In the future, Oilville and Manakin will be major villages but are currently on hold due to “infrastructure limitations.”
Small area plans are in development for Courthouse and Centerville with the kickoff for the latter beginning this past February. A public hearing was held in May and the Planning Commission deferred a vote after 17 people spoke in opposition. There were concerns about traffic, density, environmental impacts, and other issues.
To learn more, take a look at a video from May 16 on YouTube.
Tonight’s meeting will begin with a presentation from Krystal Onaitis, the deputy county administrator. The topic is an “Overview of Where We Are and Path Forward.”
That will be followed by a presentation from Charles Rapp, the director of landscape architecture for the Timmons Group. Rapp previously worked as the planning director in Albemarle County. He’ll review changes that are being made to the plan based on feedback from the public hearing.
