April 3, 2025: Amelia County Board of Supervisors to be presented with FY26 budget information tomorrow
Amelia Supervisors will also meet with Senator Luther Cifers after the budget discussion
This is the third and final installment this week for an experimental newsletter that seeks to provide an overview of what’s happening in local government in the 24 communities in Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District.
Why do this? I remember a Peanuts cartoon as the first place I ever read the phrase “Because it is there” with respect to why someone would want to climb the world’s largest mountain. I do this newsletter because the subject is challenging and a successful implementation would be quite compelling.
As it stands, this is a secondary product of my company. Charlottesville Community Engagement is the primary work because it’s what people are paying me to do. People pay me because they want to know what’s happening and so I want to be as prolific as I can.
Today’s newsletter focuses on just one meeting. Let’s get moving!
Amelia County Supervisors to meet with Senator Cifers in special meeting
The same redistricting process which led to the Fifth Congressional District being geographically cohesive also led to new boundaries for the General Assembly. There are fewer examples of localities that have three or four Delegates.
The person who is now the Congressional representative for the Fifth District, John McGuire, was the first person to represent Senate District 10. Senate District 10 includes parts of Hanover County, Louisa County, Prince Edward County, and a small sliver of Henrico County. Intact counties in the 10th District include Powhatan, Goochland, Fluvanna, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, and Amelia counties.
The second meeting of the Amelia County Board of Supervisors is at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room of the Amelia County Administration Building at 16360 Dunn Street in Amelia Court House.
“The purpose is to meet with Senator Cifers to discuss current concerns and events,” read the agenda for the meeting.

Cifers, a Republican, was elected to Senate District 10 in a special election on January 8. He defeated Democrat Jack Trammel with over 58 percent of the vote.
This meeting will take place an hour after a presentation on the budget for fiscal year 2026 budget as well as the proposed tax rates. They will take a vote to approve the tax rates to advertise for 2025 and take a vote to establish the date for a public hearing. There’s no information available in advance.
