April 17, 2025: Nottoway County Supervisors to meet this evening
Fourth of four newsletters weeks as well as the shortest!
This is the last of four newsletters this week and the first time I’ve had a time to write up a small blurb about Nottoway County’s basic make-up. But then I have to getting to today’s Charlottesville Community Engagement as well as a story for C-Ville Weekly.
Back next week!
Public hearings before Nottoway County Supervisors on landfill fee increases, solar amendments
With a 2020 Census count of 15,642, Nottoway County is the sixth smallest locality in Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District. As with many other Southside communities, the Weldon Cooper Center of Public Service at the University of Virginia projects that number declining through 2050. Their population estimate for July 2024 showed growth… of five people!
What will actually happen? Much of that will be determined by decisions made by the five-member Board of Supervisors. They meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the General District Courtroom at 328 W. Courthouse Road in Nottoway. (agenda packet)
There are two public hearings.
The first is on proposed increases to the tipping fee for the landfill. The full list of increases is listed in the image below but the fee for garbage and trash would go from $42 a ton to $55 a ton. (learn more)
The second is on amendments to the county’s solar ordinance. One of the main changes appears to be a deletion of the definition for “Medium Scale” from the ordinance. (learn more)
There will also be several reports from departments.
Then there will be reports from Constitutional officers.
Under new business there are four items.
The first is on a new contract with the animal shelter.
The second is on an appointment to the Industrial Development Authority.
The third relates to the disposition of surplus vehicles.
The fourth is on a strategic plan for the Nottoway County Emergency Squad.
There is a closed meeting but a specific reason or section of code is cited.
